Before you travel

How to get there and how to prepare

Getting to the Mountain

The closest town to Condor Blanco Mountain is Pucón. You need to get to Pucón, where check-in takes place and the official bus to the Mountain departs.

Be careful with direct flights to Temuco. A stop in Santiago is mandatory to complete all entry procedures into Chile. If you book a flight to Temuco, allow enough time between connections to arrive in time for the official check-in.

Arrival and departure dates: arrive in Chile by Sunday noon at the latest (one day before check-in) and plan your return from Tuesday noon onwards (one day after check-out).

From Santiago to Pucón by plane

From Santiago International Airport, Arturo Merino Benítez, you can take domestic flights with LATAM, Sky Airline or JetSMART to Temuco airport, the closest to Pucón. At Temuco airport you can book a transfer to Pucón with several transport companies.

The transfer from Temuco to Pucón costs about USD 20. A direct taxi to the Mountain costs around USD 180 and can be shared with others from the CB tribe. Check-in and check-out in Pucón are mandatory before going up.

From Santiago to Pucón by bus

The trip takes about 10 hours. Several companies run it, such as Turbus, Buses Jac and Pullman Bus. The road is flat and the buses are comfortable, so you can travel overnight and arrive rested.

At Santiago airport, look for the Turbus counter and buy a ticket to Terminal Alameda (about 1,500 Chilean pesos). Allow 2 hours for this transfer. We recommend buying your bus ticket in advance; you can pay with an international credit card at turbus.cl.

Turbus has several terminals in Santiago: go to Terminal Alameda, central and easy to reach, but very busy. Keep an eye on your belongings and carry your passport and money in a money belt. If you need to spend a night in Santiago, we suggest the Hotel Ibis Santiago Estación Central, next to the terminal, bookable on the Accor website.

Tips for Pucón

Pucón is a small, walkable town. Lodging: about USD 70 per night. Suggestion: Hostal Lounge Brasil (cafeloungebrasil.com). Meals: about USD 20 to USD 30.

On check-in day we set aside a space to leave your luggage, so you can see a bit of the town before the bus leaves. Time between check-in and the bus is tight: do not go too far and do not leave shopping for the last minute.

Partners and discounts in Pucón: La Fabrika, 10% off (Av. Bernardo O'Higgins 673). Hostel École, 20% off paying cash or 10% by card (General Urrutia 592). Trawen Restaurant, 10% off for CB guests showing the discount image.

Mandatory travel insurance

Everyone must have travel insurance. You can buy it through a travel agency or your bank. We recommend Nigaru, from the Golden Dream agency: +55 48 99990-0372. Condor Blanco is not responsible for the agency's services.

Tip: if your insurance works by reimbursement, your credit card will need enough limit to pay for hospital care. We suggest it is NOT reimbursement-based, so the insurer pays for treatment directly. Even though the requirement was dropped in Chile, we recommend Covid-19 coverage.

How the Mountain works

There is no phone signal or free internet on the Mountain. If you need it, you can buy a weekly internet password for USD 50. In some spots there is a bit of signal from the Claro network; you can buy a SIM card in Santiago or Pucón.

The official currency on the mountain is the Chilean peso. We also accept dollars, euros and reais, converted at the exchange rate set during the event. At the Boulevard you will find books, stones, crafts, eco products and internet service, priced from USD 10 to USD 300. We accept Chilean pesos and credit cards. There is also the Mahayana café, with chocolate, brownies and other treats for sale. Usually on the day of Suryavan's talk there is a stone selection and promotional sales, priced from USD 80 to USD 150.

Ask your bank to enable your credit card for international use. If you have time, you can exchange money for Chilean pesos at Santiago airport or at the exchange office in Terminal Alameda.

General tips and safety

During the day, for the experiences, wear comfortable clothes such as joggers or leggings. Once on the mountain, nobody goes down to town until the end of the week. Bring cereal bars, seeds and dried fruit (buy them in Chile: bringing seeds into the country is restricted), chocolate and other snacks you like. The bathrooms have no space to leave your things, so bring a small hand bag.

Your safety: the nearest health center is a 30-minute drive away, so it is important to bring all your medicines. The mountain infirmary is for accidents only. As the Mountain is a forest reserve, nobody may light a fire without a leader's permission; we suggest not bringing incense, candles, etc.

Eco tips: the Mountain is in an ecological reserve. All waste is sorted into dry waste for recycling and organic waste for composting. To avoid polluting the soil and water, all toiletries must be biodegradable.
